One Of The Worst Window Design Mistakes (Don’t come at me!)

I hope you don’t hate me after this blog post. This is a no judgement zone (ADVICE ONLY!), but I’m also on a mission to rid the world of these ugly things. What am I speaking so badly about? Blinds. There. I said it. Do they serve a purpose? For sure. Are they ugly? Yes. We have owned four houses now, and one of the first things I do when we move in is take down all of the blinds. You are probably gasping by now. What about privacy? I know, I know, but there are other ways to obtain privacy. I promise! And besides, if you are working on making your home beautiful, then why not allow people to peek in (on occasion) and see all of your hard work? I read an article once that’s topic was “rich people don’t have blinds.” I laughed out loud because I don’t think only rich people are allowed to take their blinds down. We all deserve this style opportunity, so if you are or aren’t rich, let me help you venture into new territory!

First up-roman shades. I love these just about anywhere, and you can pull them down far enough to grant some privacy, and they still add so much charm and warmth to a space. Better than blinds? Absolutely yes.

Next-cafe curtains. I have grown to really love these. They instantly add charm to any space, and they even look good closed. Plus, when they are closed they still allow light to come through, so that’s a win-win.

We can’t forget the wonders of drapes. Drapes elevate a space just like lighting does. We say that lighting is the jewelry of the room, and drapes are the clothes of the room. They bring texture and warmth to a space like nobody’s business. A room is just not the same without them, and these sheer drapes also provide privacy and light, so who needs blinds? Not me.

Last but not least, we can’t forget the use of both a roman shade and drapes. There is nothing quite like this to elevate a space, and they offer all the privacy you need when closed. Also, who said drapes don’t look great closed? Definitely not me.

Have I convinced you yet? Keep scrolling to see pictures of our homes without blinds. We lived just fine without them, and quite frankly, enjoyed seeing the views of our neighborhood. Remember that you can use all of these other options for what they are actually there for-privacy! Close those drapes, roman shades, and cafe curtains when you need that time for yourself. It’s truly Ok, and they will still look better than blinds!

Are you with me now? Join the fight and take down all of those blinds, and know that I am with you in spirit and even cheering you on.

Love,
